goku
Goku (aka Kakarot)---main character of Dragonball-Z-GT and Bardock's son sent to destroy Earth. He was found in Mount Paozu by Grandpa Gohan and banged his head on a rock as a baby. Thus, he forgot about his Saiyan quest and trained under his grandpa. Then he trained under Master Roshi and Kami. Next, he learned under Kaiou. He married Chi-Chi and became the father of Gohan and Goten. He was killed fighting Radditz, wished back with the Dragonballs, killed again when Cell exploded, and came back to life when Dai-Kaioushin gave up his life so that Goku could live to fight Buu. Goku can reach SSJ1, SSJ2, and SSJ3 level. He can also reach Super Goku 4 level. Goku is considered the true Saiyan who appears every 1000 years. In addition, he has fused with Vegeta to become Vegeto and Gogeta! At the end of Dragonball GT, Goku rode on Shenlong, fused with the Dragonballs, and disappeared.

ssj2
I personally think Gokou achieved this stage in movie #4, when fighting Cooler. In movie #9, Gohan was told by Goku to go SSJ2, he tried to go SSJ2, but reached a more incredible stage, The Ultimate SSJ Level, doing so he killed Boujack and the rest of his crew. This level is incredibly more powerful than SSJ1. SSJ1 was used quite frequently in movies #4-9, but SSJ2 had more immediate results. SSJ1 proved inefficient in stopping Boujack's crew, and when Gohan reached SSJ2, he easily overpowered the aliens.
Physical description: Alot greater muscle mass than SSJ1, and a few more inches of blond hair also pointing up. Occasionally accompanied by zapping silver lightning (which happens everyonce in a while)

ssj1
This stage was first reached by Goku in movie #6 as he fought Lord Slug. He didn't appear to be a Super Saiyan then, since his hair had a black tinge to it.Officially, Goku went SSJ1 for the first time in the Freezer Saga, after Freezer killed Kuririn.
Physical description: increase in body mass, hair turns Goldish/Yellow and Stands up. *Note* A Saiya-jin is always born with a tail. As long as he keeps his tail, he can turn into a Oozaru (Giant Ape) with a Full Moon.

ssj3
Gokou first achieved this level during a fight with Majin Buu. This is the most powerful level of Super Saiyan (in what I think of Super-Saiyan). Majin Buu could overpower SSJ3 Gokou, but this level did destroy Fat Janenba in movie #12. SSJ3 was also used in Dragon Ball GT, but Goku couldn't hold it due to his little body's lack of strength, although he does reach Super-Saiyan Level 4.
Physical Description: Goku's physical appearance is more lean and menacing looking, with about 4 and half feet of flowing blond hair and a larger muscle mass. Also in this form the Saiyan-jin is Very Quick and Fast.
*Note* Only Goku and Gotenks have achieved this level. No other Saiyan's have achived it, but others have gone past this level (Vegita goes SSJ4).
ssj4
This is actually not a SSJ level, seeing that Goku and Vegita doesn't have blond hair. They do have increased muscle mass though, but still, I don't believe this is a SSJ level, and others agree. This is also the only stage with a tail (Well Saiyan-jin already have tails, but they grow it back in this form). In SSJ4, Goku is almost god-like, and he can use "Times 10 Kame-hame-ha." or "Ultimate Kame-hama-ha
Physical description: Although Gokou was wished by the Dragon Balls to become a child again, in SSJ4 form, he has his normal adult body with a bit more muscle mass. His upper torso is covered in redish/brown fur, his hair is black, and his eyes are red rimmed, pretty wicked actually.

gohan
Gohan---Goku's and Chi-Chi's first son. He trained under Piccolo, and then under Goku. Gohan is responsible for defeating Vegeta in the Vegeta Series. In the Cell Series, he was able to reach SSJ1 and SSJ2 form and killed Cell. In the Buu Series, Gohan learned how to become Mystic Gohan under Dai-Kaioushin's training. Gohan was absorbed by Boo, but rescued by Goku and Vegeta. Gohan also assumed the identity as the Great Saiyan-man, a crime fighter. Afterwards, he married Videl and became the father of Pan. |
vegeta
Vegeta (Vegeeta)---Evil Prince of the Saiyans who grew up following Frieza's orders to conquer other planets. Vegeta was defeated for the first time by Gohan and retreated. Then, he allied with the Z warriors in battling Frieza in the Frieza Series, Vegeta easily gets jealous at other warriors because he wanted to be the strongest. Vegeta also vows that Kakarot's life belongs to him. In the Cell Series, Vegeta reaches SSJ level for the first time. Vegeta officially became one of the good guys in the Buu Series, when he realized that Goku is stronger. In the Buu Series, he became one of Babi-di's zombies, Majin-Vegeta, and self-destructed in hope of destroying Buu. He was revived by King Yama to fight Buu. Vegeta also fuses with Goku to become Vegeto. In Dragonball GT, Baby took over his body and he became Vegeta-Bebi. Then, he reaches SSJ4 level for the first time, and fused with Super Goku 4 to become Gogeta once again. |
